J&E Sedgwick English Bridle August 18 2015, 0 Comments
Just received English Bridle leather from J&E Sedgwick!
What a superb quality. Love the waxy surface with white bloom. At a glance, it may look dirty but it's the sign of quality and they will fade as you wear. Right underneath the bloom is a very smooth surface guaranteed to give a nice and lovely aging. Stay tuned for the products with J&E Sedgwick's English bridle leather!

Gary Clark Jr. & D'Angelo at Forest Hills Stadium June 22 2015, 0 Comments
Quite a line up to see Gary Clark Jr. & D'Angelo on the same night!
One flash rain during Gary Clark Jr set didn't turn anyone down, rather it sure has lighten up!
D'Angelo set was full of energy from the start to the end. Wasn't expecting anything like that from
Brown Sugar act. Towards the end, the performance sounded much like James Brown and
The J.B.'s although I've never seen James Brown performing live, ha!

One Piece Business Card Case: Behind the scene December 15 2014, 0 Comments
We just wanted to show some steps to make our One Piece Business Card Case.
1. First, we cut the leather to the pattern, treat the skin side to get a smooth surface,
cut off the edges, and burnish the edges all by our hands.
2. Now, using stitching chisels, we create stitching holes to the leather.
We use round stitching chisel as opposed to conventional diamond stitching chisel.
Because we feel it gives more strength to tears than sharp edges created by diamond stitching chisels.
It may not make that much difference, but we just feel it's better.
3. Next is hand stitching.
Here is something to note. Our product can't be made with sewing machine.
As you can see, the needle cannot simply pass through from one side to the other
because it hits the other side of the wall due to a pocket shape.
So we use curved needles to do the work. As for the stitching method, we use saddle stitch
to give a maximum strength.
4. When you are done stitching, clean the surface and it's ready to go.

Dumbo Arts Festival 9/26-28 September 30 2014, 0 Comments
In conjunction with a contemporary Japanese artists collective, Art Beasties's 1st anniversary open studio during Dumbo Arts Festival, Brújula New York exhibited our minimalistic wallet collection "One Piece Minimalist." Also exhibited at the studio were Understatement, a New York based high quality handcrafted eyewear brand, Attic Projekt, a Brooklyn based creative unit lead by a Japanese-American contemporary artist Mattsuo, and Buaisou, who farms their own indigo in Japan using Japanese traditional techniques and sells natural indigo dyed products. The open studio was a great success drawing hundreds of visitors during the 3 day festival in Dumbo Brooklyn. Many visitors praised us as one of the well-presented galleries in this year's festival. The success of the open studio was really a result of joint efforts by all participating artists, and we really enjoyed working with every one of the artists. And a very special thanks goes out to Art Beasties members, So-san from Galassia New York, and Sho (Understatement) who invited us to be a part of this wonderful event.

We made our "One Piece Leather Business Card Case" and "Lighter case" in this new matt black cordovan from Shinki-Hikaku Japan with Yellow stitch. Do they resemble something familiar? Ummm yeah, Dr. Martens! It wasn't really intentional but ended up giving resemblance to it. Anyway, looks good right???
We were at Capsule Show NYC July 24 2014, 0 Comments
We were at Capsule Show NYC (July 21 & 22nd). Wow, that was such an exciting and great experience! We should've announced this in advance, but it was really a last minutes thing. Joe from US Repo brought us an opportunity to showcase Brújula New York with him, and we took the opportunity. Joe makes really detailed pieces of clothing, some truly original and some inspired by vintage clothing. You can search "US Repo" or "Repo Brand", you'll find some articles about him.
Two days at Capsule show were a blast! Meeting and making some new connections. Learning how other brands present themselves at the show. What we are missing in our product line to lure new buyers who've never heard of us before. The importance of coming back there again. Relationship with the brands in the same market. Now we have to digest what we've learned and solidify our next step. By the way, surprisingly I saw many friends that I've never thought I'd see there. What a happy bonus.
Getting ready for the exciting two days.
It's getting there. Need a little final adjustments.
With some props, it's got some vibe now.
Joe (US Repo) and Christian from Left Field. I have some thermals from Choctaw Ridge and didn't realize Choctaw Ridge is indeed part of Left Field. Christian is a crazy wild guy but has this warmth inside of him and respect for people.
Joe's friends, Michael & James from Outerboro talking to a buyer from London. Such a nice and caring guys. Loved hanging out with them.
Brands, Brands, Brands! Wish I had more time to browse through all the booths.

And here is our new logo. Hope you like it.
Nick Waterhouse at Bowery Ballroom February 28 2014, 0 Comments
We love music! Genre ain't matter. Anyway, we went to see Nick Waterhouse at Bowery Ballroom the other night. God he's talented. He writes, performs and produces music for himself and others like Allah-Las also. He has a touch to bring us back to the old 50s-60s Rock, R&B, Soul & Jazz sounds yet has this freshness from 21st century. If you see him coming to your town, I'd suggest you go check him out.
Wickett & Craig Tannery Visit November 07 2013, 0 Comments
So we drove 5 hours all the way to Wickett and Craig Tannery in Curwensville, Pennsylvania. Glenn from Wickett and Craig was really nice welcoming us and without hesitation gave us, a small time unknown maker, a tour inside the tannery thoroughly explaining each stage of skin to leather tanning process. What an eye opening experience that was. The tannery was huge like the size of a soccer field (maybe a bit smaller but anyway). There were so many steps with various duration in each stage for a mere skin to become beautiful leather that we all love. Their leather is tanned using tannins from wood so-called vegetable tanning and don't use chemicals, so it is environmentally friendly also.
The visit made us aware of the long and complicated process of tanning and dyeing, and it sure made us appreciate the leather we get to use more than before.
Our English Bridles are being skived.
Just out of tanning process, still wet.
